The First Ever Utah Lake Scavenger Hunt

We are excited to announce that the Utah Lake Commission will be hosting a countywide scavenger hunt, focusing on Utah Lake, using the GooseChase app. Photo, Video, Text, and GPS scavenger hunt missions are created and assigned point values by organizers, and players are automatically awarded points after completing each submission on their device.

Missions will include answering trivia questions about the lake, watching videos sharing educational content, and capturing photos or videos of various recreational activities as well as all sorts of missions to specific access points.

The scavenger hunt will start Wednesday, July 22nd at 8:00 AM and end Wednesday, August 5th at 10:00 PM.  Winners will be announced daily, Mon–Fri, on the Commission Facebook and Instagram accounts with the grand prize winner being announced on Thursday, August 6th at 10:00 AM. Points accrued on weekends will count toward Monday’s daily prize and the grand prize. Each team may only win one daily prize per game.  All teams, whether they have or have not won a daily prize, will be eligible for the Grand Prize.

Rules for Participation in the Scavenger Hunt

You must live in Utah. One team per household or friend groups with fewer than 10 people. You may play as a team of one if you want to. You must contact the Commission within 7 days of winning to claim your prize: email sam@utahlakecommission.org.  By participating in this game, you agree to allow the Commission to share your photos. By participating you acknowledge that other players will be able to see your photo/video submissions, please black out any personal information before submitting.  Any profane or vulgar submissions may be grounds for dismissal from the game.

Winners will be determined by mission points.  Bonus points will be applied to Grand Prize missions where bonus points are included in the mission description and may be used as tie breakers for Daily Prizes. Please be sure to follow all social distancing recommendations from the state.

This year’s scavenger hunt is in lieu of our annual Utah Lake Festival as a way to promote visitation and education about Utah Lake while maintaining good social distancing practices.

3 Things to Know Before Playing

1. Costs: Many missions in this scavenger hunt have no cost, others may require entrance fees and/or minimal rental fees. Participation in this hunt does not waive the need to pay those costs.

2. Algae Blooms: Isolated algae blooms may be present on Utah Lake. “Know before you go” about algae blooms and how to spot them. Watch for signs of blooms and avoid them. Learn more at: HABS.utah.gov

3. Safety: We encourage you to check the weather, wear a life jacket, and otherwise follow water safety recommendations while on the water participating in this scavenger hunt.
