The Utah Lake Authority hosts a photo contest each year. This contest is sponsored by several local businesses. Our favorite picture promote the beauty of Utah Lake, the fun recreational activities available there!

As the Authority, our efforts in this contest are centered on showing Utah County and the rest of the world the beautiful scenery and entertaining recreation found at Utah Lake.  If you want to see more gorgeous photos submitted in the contests, see our Utah Lake Authority Flickr Photostream. Submission Period

Submissions open July 20, 2024, at 12:01am and close on October1, 2024, 11:59pm. We will announce winners at the winner’s gallery, held in late October.

Contest Categories

SCENIC

Submit your scenic photos for a chance to win! Whether you’re an amateur photographer or a seasoned pro, Utah Lake offers a canvas of breathtaking views waiting to be framed. Here are some tips:

  1. Scenic in Focus: Look beyond the obvious. Venture around Utah Lake’s perimeter. From sandy beaches to rugged trials Utah Lake has diverse landscapes.
  2. Discover: Participate with curiosity! Immerse yourself in the lake’s history, geology, and ecology. Learn about the native fish, wetlands restoration efforts, and the battle against invasive plants.

FUN

Submit your most fun photos for a chance to win! Whether you’re an amateur photographer or a seasoned pro, the “Fun” category invites you to capture the lighter side of Utah Lake. Here are some tips:

  1. Playful Moments: Seek out joy and spontaneity.  Show us the moments that make Utah Lake a hub of happiness and adventure. Explore the Lake and find thoes sweet spots that represent fun at the lake.
  2. Eco-Discovery: Fun isn’t just about snapshots; it’s about learning too! learn the lake’s ecology. Spot native fish, observe wetland plants, find some anglers, and marvel at the intricate balance of life.

WILDLIFE 

Submit your wildlife photos for a chance to win! Whether you’re an amateur photographer or a pro, the “Wildlife” category invites you to capture the untamed spirit of Utah Lake. Here are some tips:

  1. Embrace Life: Utah Lake is full of wildlife. Whether it’s the flight of our avian residents, the variety of fish, or the elusive animals nestled within the flora, capture those moments that define Utah Lake as a vibrant hub for life.
  2. Discover: Learn about Utah Lake’s conservation efforts. learn about the battle against invasive species. Celebrate the success like the return of native fish and the revival of marsh habitats.

An Honorary Mention comes with a $50 reward, and it also grants us permission to use the photographer’s exceptional photo.

More Information

Photos will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • originality
  • overall impact
  • artistic merit
  • relevance to Utah Lake and its scenery and recreational opportunities

Judging will be conducted by a panel selected by Utah Lake Authority at its sole discretion.

You will be notified by email in October 2024 if your photo is selected for inclusion in Utah Lake Authority’s special exhibition via the email address provided at the time of entry.

The winners from all three categories will be on display at the week-long winners gallery, hosted this year at Allen’s Camera in Provo. The opening night will be a special event for the winners, their family/friends, and anyone else interested. The photos will remain on display for normal business hours at Allen’s Camera for one week.

By participating in this contest and/or by accepting any prize that you may be awarded, you agree that the Utah Lake Authority, Facebook, and their respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliated companies, units and divisions; and Sponsor’s advertising and promotional agencies and prize suppliers; each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees; and their respective successors, representatives and assigns (collectively, the “Indemnified Parties”) shall not be liable for any and all actions, claims, including any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by your participation in this Contest or resulting from acceptance, possession or use of a prize. By participating in the Contest and/or accepting any prize, you agree to fully indemnify each Indemnified Party from any and all such claims by third parties. Apart from administering the Contest, the Utah Lake Authority is not obligated to use any of the above mentioned information, Submissions, but may do so, and may edit such information or materials, in the Utah Lake Authority’s sole discretion, without further obligation or compensation. The Indemnified Parties shall not be liable for: (i) late, lost, delayed, stolen, misdirected, incomplete, unreadable, inaccurate, garbled or unintelligible entries, communications or submissions; (ii) technical or computer malfunctions, or transmission errors; (iii) data corruption, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entry or other materials; (iv) claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy; or (v) any printing, typographical, administrative or technological errors in any materials associated with the Contest. The Utah Lake Authority may prohibit participation in the Contest if, in its sole discretion, it determines a user is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, hacking, deception, or any other unfair playing practices of intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other participants or Utah Lake Authority employees. Submissions will not be returned or acknowledged. Any attempt at a form of entry other than as expressly specified in these rules (including but not limited to automated, copied, third-party or mechanically reproduced entries) is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification. In the event of a dispute as to any Submission, the authorized account holder of the email address used to register will be deemed to be the entrant and must comply with these Official Rules. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person assigned an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted address. Each entrant may be required to show proof of being an authorized account holder. If the Utah Lake Authority receives a request from a third party copyright holder to remove a Submission from the judging phase, the Submission will be removed from the Contest. The Utah Lake Authority is not responsible for errors, omissions, inaccurate transmission of or failure to receive an entry. The Utah Lake Authority is also not responsible for any injury or damage to any entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in promotion, entries that are late, misdirected or incomplete. Provo City reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Contest, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures or any other factor impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Contest, as determined by The Utah Lake Authority in its sole discretion. If terminated The Utah Lake Authority may, in its sole discretion, determine the winner from among all non-suspect, eligible Submissions received up to time of such action using the judging procedure outlined above. If a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, the applicable prize may be awarded to a runner-up, if any, in The Utah Lake Authority’s sole discretion.

USE OF LIKENESS: By accepting prize, winner consents to use of their name, photograph and/or likeness for advertising/publicity purposes without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. Entries must sign an Affidavit of Eligibility & Liability and Publicity Release (“Affidavit/Release”), which must be received by the Utah Lake Authority during Entry Period.

RELEASE: By entering, entrants agree to: (1) release the Utah Lake Authority and its agents from all liability, injuries, loss and/or damage of any kind arising from their participation in the Contest and the acceptance and use/misuse of any prize; (2) agree to be bound by the Official Rules and the decisions of the judges.

Entrants authorize the Utah Lake Authority to use their name, photo, hometown, Submission, entry materials and likeness for advertising and promotional purposes, in programming or promotional material, worldwide in perpetuity, or on a winner’s list, if applicable, without further compensation unless prohibited by law.

Entry constitutes entrant’s consent to give the Utah Lake Authority a royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, create derivative works from, and display any photo submission, in whole or in part, on a worldwide basis, and to incorporate it into other works, in any form, media or technology now known or later developed, including for promotional or marketing purposes. If requested, entrant will sign any documentation that may be required for the Utah Lake Authority to make use of the non-exclusive rights entrant is granting to use the Submission.
