Utah Lake in Spring: 7 things to do

Looking for some fresh ideas to keep yourself occupied this spring? Try one of these, or as many as your schedule and interests permit:

  1. Walk the shoreline. If there’s two things Utah Lake is really good at, it’s wide open spaces and few crowds. And while I recommend walking during all four seasons, Spring is my favorite. The weather is more pleasant, and it’s the season when things start to come alive, both visually and audibly, which will add to the enjoyment of your walk.
  2. Catch a big fish. Spring is as good as any for local anglers. Call your friendly, neighborhood Division of Wildlife for current hotspots. They’re here to help.
  3. Go sailing. This is one of my favorite outings on Utah Lake. And you can do it for as little as $85 per couple.
  4. Go birding. What better place to see birds than at Utah Lake, the “no 1 birding spot in Utah County.”
  5. Get an early jump on boating. Here are the five marinas to do so. Although it may be a tad early for water sports, there’s still a lot to see and do out on the lake.
  6. Run the trails. Although still a work in progress, there are several current trails for joggers to take advantage of. And like walkers, there’s plenty of wildlife to enjoy on your run.
  7. Out of water activities. If you prefer to stay on land, here’s a list of 10 more Utah Lake activities that don’t involve water. It’s your lake. Enjoy it.

If unsure about the weather, check current conditions before planning your next trip.

  1. Hi Eric
Easter Seals-Goodwill provides transition services for youth with disabilities. We run a very special program that provides students with the opportunity to volunteer in a community setting and learn social skills they need for employment. They have a peer partner who supports them and a counselor is on site at all times.
We currently have partnerships with Thanksgiving Point, The Aquarium and The Leonardo. The students fill the role of community volunteers.
I was wondering if you have any volunteer opportunities that might fit this program. We typically have 3 students paired with 3 peers at any one time. The requirement is for the students to volunteer one time a week for 3 hours for 9 weeks.
I look forward to hearing from you
    Regards
    Janet

    • Janet,

Thanks for commenting! Please send our outreach coordinator, Sam Braegger, an email at sam@utahlakecommission.org with details of what you are thinking. Also, if you could include in that email any physical limitations your youth might have. Most of our volunteer opportunities are litter cleanup on the shorelines. Thanks!
