Dredging the Pelican Bay Marina

Saratoga Springs City is dredging their marina! Yay! We are always excited to see municipalities taking care of Utah Lake.

The Pelican Bay Marina, a.k.a. Saratoga Springs City Marina, is located on the southern end of Saratoga Springs. You can get directions to the marina on our Access Points page, which has a Google Map showing all 27 public access points on Utah Lake.

The dredging project is currently ongoing, with a projected completion date in mid-June of this year. Almost 2,000 gallons of material is pumped through the pipe every minute. The plan is to lower the lake bed inside the marina, and just outside its opening by about 3 feet. It is a wet dredging system, so they are siting the material at the marina, in a cordoned off area, to allow the water to return to Utah Lake by settling through the soil.

*Last update: The dredging project is COMPLETE! Checkout the “Saratoga Springs is Now Open!” blog post for more info.

We will continue to update you on the status of the project, and any other details in connection with it.

Looks like it was scheduled to be completed by the second week on May, any updated completion dates? Thanks.

    • Timothy,

Thanks for reading our blog post! We have updated this post to show the most current estimated time of completion. They are now estimating mid June. We will keep updating as we receive more information!

  2. Will you be getting rid of all the boulders at the bottom of the boat ramp? I’ve been hitting them with my boat and trailer for the last few years.

    • Nate,
Thanks for your comment. According to the Saratoga Springs city public information officer, the dredging project will remove 3-4 feet from the marina bottom, improving not only the area at the bottom of the ramp, but the marina as a whole, as an effort to reduce low-water levels issues such as you have experienced. Once the project is complete, mid-July, it’ll be ready and waiting for you!

  3. Is the completion date pushed back to mid-July?

    • Ryan,

Thanks for your question! When we last spoke with the public information officer for Saratoga Springs, we were told the contract end date was July 14th. The estimated completion date of mid-June was optimistic, however the current update speaks to much closer to mid-July. Although delays are never fun, we are excited for the completion and hopeful that the project will stay within the timeline.

  4. Can you confirm the mid-July completion date?

    • John,
Thanks for asking! We spoke with the new public information officer for the city of Saratoga Springs. At this time, the city could not confirm an exact date for completion, but he expressed that they are hopeful that it will be completed by the end of the month.

      • We are now into August. The summer is nearly over. Any hope of accessing marina before Labor Day?

        • It has been difficult to have the marina closed all summer. However, we are pleased that Saratoga Springs has taken on the project, and that the marina will be significantly improved. We are in constant contact with the city public information officer, and hope for good news soon. Nothing concrete has been passed onto us yet.

  5. We tried to go here yesterday and it was still closed. any update on when it will be finished, Thanks

    • Unfortunately, there have been delays in the project. We are anxiously awaiting to hear about an upcoming completion date. We are in constant contact with the city public information officer, and hope for good news soon. Nothing concrete has been passed onto us yet.

  6. I went over there yesterday. Looks like the channel out into the lake has finished being dredged (at least the dredging barge is no longer out there, that is). Most of the marina as well. There is still dredging equipment right at the ramp, but that’s it. Looks like mostly all that is left is to finish landscaping work, putting the floating docks in place, pulling out the dredging equipment, and a bit more cleanup. If the dredging really is done, wouldn’t it be reasonable to put a bit more pressure on them to give us a completion date?

    • The latest update from the city is that they will be announcing a completion date soon, probably within the next few days. There are still some repairs being performed on the boat docks, etc. but they will inform us soon and we will push that information out via our Facebook page, Instagram account, and Twitter!
