There were tracks all over Utah Lake this past week. Believe it or not, when the lake is frozen and covered with snow, there is lots of fun to be had. It’s often easy to tell what people were doing by observing the tracks left behind; others a little more challenging. We can recognize the signs an ice fisherman leaves behind, or just hikers, but to see disjointed stretches of side-by-side trails that resemble skis might be a bit baffling.
Two adventurous daredevils, Justin Brim and Chris Santacroce from Draper, recently went out onto the lake, as reported by KSL.com a couple of days ago. The reporter called it “skimming.” Not sure it that’s the technical term, but we’ll go with it.
Utilizing a paramotor (powered paragliding) these guys would fly over the frozen lake and skim their feet over the top of the snow-covered ice! It looks like fun and a unique way to spend the day on Utah Lake — and there are no crowds in the winter! Looks scary, but fun!

“Skimmers” have been active on our area of the lake for the last two years. We live on Saratoga Bay. It looks like a lot of fun. We see two or three doing this at a time. However, we saw one last week go down (crashed?) and another last winter did the same thing. Both took off again.
