About Us:
The Utah Lake Authority (ULA) is a public agency dedicated to conserving and enhancing Utah Lake’s ecosystems, recreational opportunities, and surrounding communities. We collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the sustainable management of this vital natural resource.
Position Summary:
The Communications and Events Manager will oversee the Utah Lake Authority’s public relations, communications, and community engagement efforts. This role also includes managing events that promote public awareness and engagement with Utah Lake, ensuring alignment with ULA’s mission and goals.
We are a government agency, but we’re not looking for a typical government communications manager. We seek someone with uncommon vision, creativity, tenacity, and initiative. The ideal candidate is driven, swings for the fences, lives to tackle big challenges, and rolls with whatever may come.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications and Public Relations:
- Develop and implement communication strategies to effectively convey ULA’s mission and initiatives to diverse audiences.
- Manage and effectively oversee part-time and/or contract staff to achieve strategic communications goals.
- Oversee ULA’s social media, website, newsletters, and press releases, ensuring consistent messaging and branding.
- Serve as the media contact, fostering relationships with media outlets and coordinating responses to public and media inquiries.
- Create and manage marketing campaigns to raise awareness about ULA’s programs, events, and initiatives.
Community Outreach and Engagement:
- Plan, organize, and execute community events and programs (e.g., Utah Lake Festival, educational workshops).
- Manage and oversee part-time and/or contract staff in order to realize the goals of these events.
- Develop partnerships with community organizations, local governments, and other stakeholders to advance ULA’s outreach goals.
- Supervise volunteer programs, including recruitment, training, and coordination for various projects and events.
- Represent ULA at community meetings, public forums, and other outreach activities as needed.
Event Management:
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of ULA-sponsored events, ensuring logistical and programmatic success.
- Manage event logistics, including scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Evaluate events and gather feedback to inform future improvements.
While this is a large portfolio, you will be working in a tight-knit team where we sustain and support one another as we pursue our common mission and goals.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Event Management, English, or a related field.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, public relations, and community outreach and marketing.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in event management and community building.
- Proven experience developing communication strategies and organizing successful public events.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Experience managing social media platforms, websites, and email marketing tools.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders, community members, and media contacts.
- Knowledge of environmental conservation principles and familiarity with Utah Lake is a plus.
